Hunting Dog in the making...

Today we put down a new layer of wood chips in the neighborhood dog park.
When I took Mokey to the park, she found a nest of baby mice in the middle of the park! There were 5 of them, each one the size of my finger, hairless and pink, and very much alive. I had mixed emotions.

They were babies... kinda cute!
Are those baby moles?
Oh no! Where's the mama??
Mokey! Drop it!!! (She decided to save one from being scooped up in a shovel)
How can you throw them over the fence? They're still squealing!
WHAT THE HELL WAS A NEST OF BABIES DOING IN A BAG OF MULCH???

I was pretty proud of my puppy for sniffing out live animals buried among the wood chips. It was Mokey's moment of glory- truth that she was a real dog. I could tell she wanted the moment to last because she continued to sniff for more treasures for 20min after they were already gone.
