TGIF? I think not.

It was 12:30pm when it started to rain, right as I walked out the door
to the bus stop. Good thing I had brought an umbrella. Bad thing I had
decided to buy $50 worth of baking supplies at Whole Foods and Crate
and Barrel.
I was standing at the bus stop, pathetic as can be, with one hand
holding my only means of shelter and my other arm wrapped around my
double PAPER bag of potential cupcakes.
The bus pulls up to the stop, right in front of me. Nicely done, Mr.
Bus Driver. As I take one step forward, my paper bag falls apart. All
my baking materials are laying on the wet sidewalk as it continues to
pour. Ugh. Soggy bags of flour and baking soda end up in my damp
oversized purse.
Good news? Mr. Bus Driver was kind enough to help me!
Bad news? Lost inspiration for making chocolate cupcakes.

Pool Party

Mokey's friend, Teddy, had a photo shoot in his baby pool in front of
our house. Mokey was not at all interested in posing OR playing in the
water- much to our dismay.

Night Night

Today I babysat Sam. I've been with his family since he was 3 months old. He turns 2 in a short few weeks. I love him so much- he's my best little buddy!
We were hanging out in the living room when he got all worked up to show me a dead fly on the ground. He repeated "night, night" while he pointed at the "bee". Pretty cute and innocent.

Poor college student shopping

There has come a point in my life where I suddenly feel too childish.
Specifically in the area of my clothing attire. I'm a senior, graduating in December, and ready to start exploring the real world of 9-5 and happy hours. I have decided that I must dress more maturely. The switch from bright colored babydolls and bows to classy structured tops and pumps has to happen eventually- The time is now! I have thrown out old those old t-shirts and tank tops and immaturely spent too much money on a new back to school wardrobe, all purchased from the online sale sections of mediocre shops. Hmmm, gotta start somewhere. So, real world? I'll be ready for you in 5-8 business days... Still wearing my beat up Chuck Taylor converses.

Summer heat

We'd rather recline inside where it's nice and cool.

Google Voice

I got my Google Voice number today.
Through the internet OR my phone Google Voice allows me to send free text messages, make free calls locally and nationally, and offers super cheap international calls . You can READ your voice mails online too!
Apple has already banned Google Voice on the Iphone. But when Google finds a way to make it available via Safari then I will be able to cancel my text messaging and lower my calling plan... saving me probably $40 a month on my phone bill.

Want it?
Request your invite at https://services.google.com/fb/forms/googlevoiceinvite/

AND if you ever feel like contacting me, my new online number is:
650-8mokey2
(650-866-5392).

The Masters School

Today I found out that my little sister has been accepted to attend The Masters School in New York. This came as surprising news. It was only the beginning of this month that she visited the school and decided to go through the application process. Chances that she would be accepted were not guaranteed because she was on the wait list.
However, Masters decided to admit Susan for the fall based on her test scores, application, and her interview. There were other applicants that had the grades and the money, but the school obviously decided that Susan would fit in perfectly.
Masters' atmosphere does not have the typical snooty prep school stereotype that many think of. Nic spent a few years at this school and upon meeting many of his schoolmates, I decided that this could be a great place for Susan. All his friends are extremely genuine, intelligent, and have a great sense of humor.

I believe that this is an amazing opportunity. My experiences in public school are not proud moments of my life, nor do I really think that they aided me any way. Susan has also told me her own horror stories of public school that led her to leave San Marcos.
Needless to say, she is more excited than me that she will be in Dobbs Ferry, NY in less than one month!

Restaurant Week

Every year I get really excited about Restaurant Week, only to find out that it has already come and gone. Hundreds of upscale restaurants throughout DC offer super savings on three course meals.
This year I'm ready because I know exactly when it is :)... week of August 24th.

"Nails without ridges"

Nic told me a story about his day working in the hardware shop.

A girl with a GW shirt walked into the store with a bag full of screws. She was looking for some hardware... specifically "special nails without ridges."

Fierce

My little sister found these photos buried at the bottom of a box that belongs to my aunt. I've never seen them. Looking at these pictures reminded me of a handful of memories I haven't remembered in over 15 years.

A. I had a kitten for a few days. Of those few days, I only saw it for a few hours because I lost it in our tiny apartment. Later I found out that it had been hiding under the sink and Nana didn't tell us it was there.
B. Making pupusas with my Tia.
C. Life as THE younger sibling.

Me and Tito, 5 years old.

Another reason to Love/Hate APPLE

I can't wait to get my hands on this touchscreen tablet... Huge Ipod with a 10 inch screen and more technology that is beyond the scope of anyone.
I love being sucked into the world of Apple one device at a time.

Freshly squeezed strawberries

I babysat Everett today.
We went on a 1.5 mile hike to the library and back for storytime. During lunch he thought it was hilarious to grab his strawberries and squeeze the hell outta them. I tried to stop him but the fruity aroma that filled the room was too good to be true. After this picture he then wanted to sing me songs and bang his plate around. Ah, he's got some great jokes.

Welcome

I'm welcoming myself to The Alley Dwelling. Dwelling?
Dwelling
- as well as being a term for a house, or for living somewhere, or for lingering somewhere

In the last few days, I have found myself (and Mokey) in an empty house. When you have 5 other roommates and only two bedrooms (ahem, and one bathroom), it is hard to find a comfortable quiet time without feeling like you've stepped on someone else's toes.... literally.

Nic has chosen to use this time to adventure into the world of SPORE. A computer game where he cultivates a civilization from one tiny little cell to a spiky, four-legged, killing machine. He's spent hours evolving.

I've been teaching myself to cook! This new found ability has amazed me and Nic. Since Monday, I've made chicken baked potato chowder, portobello mushroom with cream cheese sandwiches, and chinese spare ribs and fried rice. I'm probably a little too excited to start cooking in a real kitchen when I move back into the dorms... I'll be rooming with three lactose-intolerant girls (one vegetarian, one picky eater, one all-organic Greek).

Mokey: Roomate, best friend, protector of 10 Snows Court.
